Howard Returns to Indiana After Nearly a Decade
Veteran forward Natasha Howard has agreed to a new deal with the Indiana Fever, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported Friday. This will be his second stint with Indiana, which drafted him with the No. 5 overall pick in 2014.
Howard’s Career with the Fever and Meteoric Rise
Howard was a supporting player in her first two seasons with the Fever but developed into an All-Star and defensive standout. For the Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm, New York Liberty and Dallas Wings.
Howard’s Strong Performance with the Dallas Wings
The 33-year-old spent the last two seasons with Dallas and delivered one of her best scoring performances in 2024. She averaged 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 45.6% from the field, standing out on a Wings team that struggled to a 9–31 record.
Howard’s Championship Pedigree and Accolades
It was another impressive season in a career that includes three championships (in 2017 with Minnesota, in 2018 with Seattle, and in 2020 with Seattle), the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, the 2018 Most Improved Player, two All-Star selections, two All-Defensive First Team nods, and a spot on the 2019 All-WNBA First Team.
Fever’s Championship Aspirations Grow Stronger
The move comes after the Fever announced on Wednesday that they had re-signed Kelsey Mitchell, further underscoring their push toward a championship run under Clark.
Indiana Fever’s Bright Future with New Additions
Indiana reached the playoffs last season for the first time since the 2016 campaign but lost to the Connecticut Sun in the first round. Considering this was Clarke’s rookie season and the team went 13-27 the previous year, all indications were that the future was quite bright.
Howard’s Veteran Presence Strengthens Indiana’s Playoff Hopes
And now it’s even brighter after re-signing Mitchell and adding a veteran leader like Howard.
Howard’s Impact on Fever’s Frontcourt Duo with Aliyah Boston
Howard is also a veteran player who has reached the highest level of the game who could help turn a young Fever team around when facing postseason pressure. She should form a one-two punch in the frontcourt with Aliyah Boston as Indiana prepares for the 2025 campaign.
