Here’s a story from women’s college basketball, via the Associated Press:

Southern Cal’s second loss of the season dropped the Trojans to seventh in the Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll on Monday.

The previously No. 4 Trojans suffered a setback at Iowa when the Hawkeyes beat them 76-69 on Sunday, the day Kaitlin Clark’s jersey was retired. USC’s only other loss came at home against Notre Dame in November.

UCLA, South Carolina, and Notre Dame continue to hold the top three spots in the rankings. The Bruins received all 32 first-place votes in the poll from the national media panel, including one vote the Gamecocks received last week.

The Bruins defeated Minnesota 79–53 in their only game last week and remain the only undefeated team in the country. South Carolina defeated then-No. 18 Tennessee and Auburn. Sunday’s win over the Tigers came on the day the Gamecocks retired A’ja Wilson’s jersey.

Texas, UConn and LSU all moved up one spot after the Fighting Irish. Ohio State, TCU and Duke ranked from 10th to eighth.

Rising Wildcats:

No. 11 Kentucky has achieved its best ranking in four years under first-year coach Kenny Brooks. The Wildcats (19-2), who last ranked this high in 2021, complete their bye week ahead of a tough SEC schedule to close the regular season. They still have upcoming games against South Carolina, LSU, Texas, and Tennessee.

The only two losses this season came against North Carolina on December 5 and Texas A&M on January 23.

Conference Standings and Breakdown:

With no new teams in the poll this week, the Southeastern Conference remained at the top with eight teams. The ACC had seven. The Big Ten was second with five. There are four ranked teams in the Big 12 and one in the Big East.

Key Games to Watch This Week:

No. 9 TCU vs. No. 12 Kansas State on Wednesday. First place in the Big 12 will be at stake when the Horned Frogs visit the Wildcats. Both teams are 9-1 in conference play.

No. 5 UConn vs. No. 19 Tennessee on Thursday. These two will resume their rivalry with the Huskies visiting the Lady Vols. This will be the first time UConn will see Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell’s pressing style.

No. 2 South Carolina vs. No. 4 Texas on Sunday. The Longhorns will look to avenge a 17-point loss at Columbia last month. South Carolina has a one-game lead in the standings over the Longhorns, Kentucky and LSU.
